Prussia. Wilhelm I gold Specimen Artists Prize Medal of 10 Ducats ND (1861) SP63 PCGS, cf. Marienburg-4410 (similar theme, though different engraver in larger size), Sommer-P112/1 (for obverse), Sommer-K127 (for reverse). 31mm. 34.87gm. By F.W. Kullrich (reverse by C. Pfeuffer, unsigned). Bare bust of Wilhelm I right in mirrored field, in matte ring surrounding, personifications of Painting, Sculpting, Music, and Architecture, alternating with ornamented panels / Front view of the old Berlin Museum, Apollo in solar chariot drawn by four horses above, griffin motif below. The sole example of this impressive gold medal for the arts we have been able to locate, brilliantly Prooflike and closely following the medals of Christian Pfeuffer, though with a larger portrait of the Kaiser on the obverse.
