Regensburg. Free City gold 10 Ducat ND (1765-1790)-B AU Details (Plugged) NGC, KM398 (Rare), Fr-2556a. 33.21gm. With the name and titles of Joseph II. An offering that astounds by its sheer scale and visual ambition, this magnificent 10 ducat displays a stunning and expansive view of the city of Regensburg, the city's stone bridge and tower serving as the focal points across the Danube, which splits the city in two. Even those collectors accustomed to City View talers and the like will pause to take notice of the resulting unique perspective, which engenders an impressive sense of scale and majesty, enhanced by its presentation in a richly toned gold format. And, even then, the reverse itself rivals this display, with both the relief and attention to the most minute details truly extraordinary, every small feather, crown ornamentation, and instance of textured stippling expressed to a profound degree. Truly, the only real imperfection to the piece, if there is one, is a small plug near 12 o'clock, though even this repair is well-executed in gold, admirably matching the color of the surrounding surfaces and completed such that the obverse rays are filled in, leaving them essentially uninterrupted. For collectors seeking to round out their cabinets with an aesthetically impressive large scale multiple ducat, we doubt that you will find this offering anything but immensely gratifying, and a rich experience in hand.
