Islamic Dynasties
Ottoman Empire. Abdul Aziz silver Specimen Pattern 40 Para AH 1277 Year 10 (1869/1870) SP55 PCGS, Mint given as Misr (in Egypt), though struck in Paris, KM-Unl., Pere-Unl., Khedivial-Unl., UBK-Unl., MH-19. An exceptionally rare off-metal pattern, likely produced by the Paris mint as part of an effort to further refine Egypt's minting technology after the programs of modernization under Mahmud II and Abdul Mejid. Lightly glassy in the fields with clear iridescent tones, likely from long-time cabinet or envelope storage, the coin at hand stands as the finest of just three certified by PCGS to-date.
