French Colony gold Regulated/Counterstamped 22 Livres ND (c. 1805) AU55 NGC, KM35, Prid-35, Gordon Variety B (Reworked). 14.3gm. Displaying a 22 over eagle counterstamp on a genuine Maria I gold 6400 Reis 1789-R from Brazil (cf. KM218.1). The first example of this rare regulated issue we have encountered on this comparatively scarce host type, both the countermark and host possessing a distinctively fresh appearance and notable luster. Apparently missing from the Byrne, Gordon, and Roehrs collections, and highly desirable as such.
