Republic gold 10 Pesos 1889 Mo-M MS61 Prooflike PCGS, Mexico City mint, KM413.7. Of extreme rarity, the sole certified piece by NGC or PCGS and only the second of the type we have ever handled (that specimen, uncertified, realized $8,500 hammer at our September 2011 sale). Only 88 were ever struck, and to the knowledge of the cataloger, only 3 to 4 individual examples survive. Of those, the present specimen must be amongst the finest extant, boasting the coveted Prooflike designation and more than deserving, with flashy fields slightly 'dished' at the peripheries and the devices bold and frosty with minimal contact; some light contact is evident, bounding the assigned grade, but its eye appeal remains immensely strong.
