Netherlands
Kingdom of Holland. Louis Napoleon 50 Stuivers 1807-B MS64 NGC, Utrecht mint, KM28, Dav-228, Schulman-148 (RR). Mintage: 300. By F. George. Slant-Reeded edge. An absolutely miniscule mintage date, particularly when compared to the nearly 2.5 million struck the following year, with our research revealing only two other examples coming to auction in the last decade and a half. In January 1807, Napoleon declared that all of the mints that had functioned under the Batavian Republic be dissolved, and only the mint at Utrecht retained. Due to the natural delays in converting the country's currency to a decimalized system, the first part of the year continued seeing types struck according to the Batavian model, a practice not curtailed until February 11, 1808, with this extended transition period likely suggesting the cause of the date's low mintage figure. Standing proud atop the NGC census out of just 5 seen to-date, this wholly original specimen blows past the Millennia collection example, which certified at only an MS61.
