MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Alexander III the Great (336-323 BC). AV stater (18mm, 8.50 gm, 11h). NGC AU 5/5 - 4/5. Posthumous issue of Colophon, ca. 319-310 BC. Head of Athena right, hair falling loose below and over left shoulder, wearing necklace and triple-crested Corinthian helmet pushed back on head, short curled crest ends, the bowl decorated with coiled serpent right / AΛEΞANΔPOY, Nike advancing left, wreath in outstretched right hand, stylis cradled in left arm; ΠA monogram above IΩ monogram in left field. Price -, cf. 1785 (ΠAP monogram above). Extremely rare - only one example in sales archives (Numismatica Ars Classica, Auction 92 Part 1, 23 May 2016, lot 158, realized 6500 CHF).
