Modern coin dies engraved by Vafiadis of Athens, Greece, for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, to produce copies of pieces in their collection. The dies were engraved between 1930-1935 and were used by the museum until 1937 to create copies to sell in the museum gift shop. Lot includes various Greek and Roman obverse and reverse dies in their original collars. A fascinating collection and unique opportunity to study how coins are made.
