Pedro II Order of Christ Commander Badge ND (Instituted 1843) UNC, Barac-118, R&S-Br57. 80x57mm. 73.90gm. With red enameled sacred heart and ring suspension. The highest order of Brazil during the empire and one of the most esteemed in Portugal, first founded by King Denis in 1319 to help expel the Moors from Portugal, with Ross and Stahl noting that "Portugal's greatest explorers were all knights of the order." Revised by Pedro II in 1843, the order was awarded for exceptional service to the state.
