German States
Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. Friedrich Ulrich Taler 1633-(s) AU50 NGC, Zellerfeld mint, KM380, Dav-6309, Welter-1055. Struck to commemorate the yield of the St. Jacob's mine in Lautenthal. A one-year type of particular significance for Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, as the principality was one of few in the Holy Roman Empire that struck good quality silver coins during the disastrous Kipper- und Wipperzeit, owing largely to Friedrich Ulrich's exploitation of the Harz silver mines.
