German States
Murbach & Lüders. Leopold of Austria, as Administrator 1/4 Taler ND (c. 1621) MS63 NGC, Ensisheim mint, KM8, Divo-78 var. (there, without pellet after EPS), Kellner-220 (under Passau). Highly rare and immensely appealing, with the ample mint luster and thick die polish over the surfaces almost certainly guaranteeing that this is one of the finest surviving examples. Murbach and Lüders were neighboring abbeys in Upper Alsace, who had shared a common ruling abbot since the 8th century, and was granted the right to mint in 1544. To-date, auction sales reveal only 3 other examples having become available.
