Great Britain
George III Counterstamped Bank Dollar ND (1797-1799) VF30 NGC, cf. KM629 (this early host date not listed), S-3765A, ESC-1854 (R2). Displaying oval bust of George III counterstamp (AU Standard) on a Charles III 8 Reales 1778 NG-P from Guatemala (cf. KM36.2). An incredibly rare host for this popular Bank of England emergency coinage, with the Standard Catalog of World Coins only recording Guatemala 8 Reales of Charles IV being used for this counterstamping program (neither Spink nor ESC provide details on the host dates). One of only four Bank Dollars struck on a Guatemalan 8 Reales that have been certified by NGC, this is the sole example we have been able to locate utilizing an issue of Charles III, with the 1778 date already being quite scarce in its own right.
