Italy
Naples & Sicily. Charles II of Spain Ducato 1684 MS63 NGC, KM110, Dav-4045, MIR-292/1 (R3). In a word, magnificent. Perhaps the most gorgeous design employed on the Neapolitan Ducati of Charles II, closely evoking the imagery of two globes used on the contemporary pillar dollars of the Spanish empire. Typically an underappreciated type due to its often poor state of preservation, seldom exceeding VF, it is fair to say that this choice specimen blows the competition out of the water--the next finest at NGC being a mere XF40 with apparently none certified by PCGS. A connoisseur's coin through-and-through, and perhaps one of the finest extent.
