Jamaica
British Colony Counterstamped 6 Shilling 8 Pence ND (1758) MS61 NGC, KM8.5 (mistakenly noted on holder as KM8.4), Prid-4. Displaying "GR" (for Georgius Rex) counterstamp on the obverse and reverse of a Ferdinand VI 8 Reales 1757 LM-JM from Peru (cf. KM55.1). An absolutely unfathomable condition for a type that is essentially never seen beyond the lower circulated grades, the next-finest example graded by NGC coming in at only XF45. Toned a deep, wholesome gunmetal with hints of russet.
Ex. Millennia Collection (Goldberg Auction 46, May 2008, Lot 1071); Irving Goodman Collection (Superior June 1996, Lot 531); Ray Byrne Collection (Jess Peters Sale 78, June 1975, Lot 801)
