Chihuahua. Ferdinand VII "Royalist" 8 Reales 1815 CA-RP XF Details (Cleaned) NGC, Chihuahua mint, KM111.1, Cal-392. Struck over a previous Royalist cast 8 Reales of Ferdinand VII (cf. KM123). The first date of this intriguing War of Independence issue, and reportedly the rarest according to Calico, with surviving pieces usually notoriously crude. Despite the noted cleaning, which if anything is more tolerable for the type, the coin displays a pleasing strike with an attractive degree of the undertype visible. For comparison, we sold a VF35 (struck from the same dies) in our January 2018 NYINC sale for $3840.
