A deeply toned issue showcasing a sweeping undercurrent of maroon spread over the surfaces, hints of mint red highlighting the individual letters of the sharply struck legends. A historical type, minted by Matthew Boulton at the Soho mint for the colony, recently populated by freed slaves transported from Canada and featuring the symbolic clasping of hands to denote the peaceful coexistence of black and white settlers.
