JULIUS CAESAR. AR Denarius (3.99 gms), Military mint traveling with Caesar, 49 B.C. NGC EF. Graffito, Bankers' Marks.
Cr-443/1; CRI-9; Syd-1006. Obverse: Elephant advancing right, trampling upon horned serpent; Reverse: Emblems of the pontificate; simpulum, aspergillum, securis, and apex. The ever-popular elephant type of Julius Caesar, this example presents better centering of strike than most of its brethren, while also offering a flan of good metal. There is some faint graffito as noted above the elephant, while the noted bankers' marks are not observed by this cataloger. Handsomely toned overall, with some charming brilliance remaining.

Estimate: $1000.00- $1500.00
