DIVUS ANTONINUS PIUS, died A.D. 161. AV Aureus (7.17 gms), Rome Mint, struck under Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus, ca. A.D. 161. NGC AU, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 2/5. Ex Jewelry, Edge Cut.
RIC-435 (Aurelius); Calico-1491. Commemorative issue. Obverse: DIVVS ANTONINVS, bare head right; Reverse: CONSECRATIO, garlanded four-tiered funeral pyre. Sharply struck and with just a hint of light handling on the high points, this posthumous issue struck under the successors of Pius does exhibit some evidence of prior use in jewelry, making it a great budget example of the type.

Ex: A. M. Smith Collection. (see lot 20116 for additional information)

Estimate: $3000.00- $4500.00
