LUCIUS VERUS, A.D. 161-169. AV Aureus (7.16 gms), Rome Mint, A.D. 164. NGC Ch AU, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 1/5. Fine Style. Ex Jewelry, Edge Filing & Edge Cuts.
RIC-512; Calico-2154. Obverse: L VERVS AVG ARMENIACVS, bare head right; Reverse: TR P IIII IMP II COS II, Lucius Verus seated left on curule chair set upon raised dais with attendant standing to left and right; to lower left, the Roman-appointed Armenian king, Sohaemus, standing left, raising right hand to head; in two lines in exergue, REX ARMEN / DAT. A well centered and struck example, presenting a great deal of detail, especially in the hair of Verus. Somewhat pale gold in appearance, this example does exhibit some evidence of prior use as a jewelry piece, though these markings do not hinder its obverse and reverse appeal.

Ex: A. M. Smith Collection. (see lot 20116 for additional information)

Estimate: $3000.00- $4500.00
