TREBONIANUS GALLUS, A.D. 251-253. Medallic AE Sestertius (17.53 gms), Rome Mint, A.D. 251-252. NGC AU, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 2/5. Fine Style. Smoothing.
cf. RIC-110. Obverse: Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right; Reverse: Statue of Juno seated facing, holding grain ears and scepter, within domed and garlanded distyle temple. Though not an unusual or SCARCE type, this particular example exhibits a rather broad, seemingly medallic flan, allowing the entirety of the design to shine through on what are rather robust deep forest green surfaces. A hint of light smoothing is noted, not surprising for bronzes such as this. An overall VERY RARE and impressive specimen, with a great pedigree as well.

Ex: Sir Arthur Evans Collection (Ars Classica XVII - 10/1934) Lot # 1698.

Ex: Otto Helbing 38 (4/1913) Lot # 1520.

Estimate: $1600.00- $2400.00
