CANADA. 10 Cents, 1871. London Mint. Victoria. PCGS SPECIMEN-64+ Gold Shield.
KM-3. An EXTREMELY RARE British Royal Mint presentation issue that has been carefully preserved as well, with full reflective qualities appearing in the fields and old tone over both sides that presents in soft rose and orange hue at the edges and becomes pale tan in the centers. A few tiny ticks determine the grade, but none have any influence on the eye appeal. For a specialist, a landmark opportunity that should not be missed!

One of only three known Specimen strikings of the date. The census is as follows:

1) The present example. Once part of the Norweb collection, where it was acquired through A.H. Baldwin & Sons in 1957. The Bowers & Merena cataloging in its the 1996 offering mentions that it was possibly from the William B. Tennant collection, but considering that the collection was purchased by Norweb en masse in 1953, this assignment seems impossible.

2) The Virgil M. Brand example. Reportedly purchased by Brand in a Specimen set of the date that was sold by Baldwin's in 1912 as part of the famed J.B. Caldecott collection. We presume this is also the only other example graded by PCGS, having received the SP-65 grade.

3) The Sir C.W. Fremantle example. This coin resides in the Canadian cabinet in the British Museum.

Ex: Cornerstone Collection.

Ex: Norweb Collection (Bowers & Merena 11/96) Lot # 177.

Estimate: $7000.00- $8000.00
