FRANCE. Carolingians. Denier, ND (819-822). Venice Mint. Louis the Pious. PCGS MS-65 Gold Shield.
MG-456; MEC-789; Roberts-1158. Weight: 1.67 gms. The single finest certified on the PCGS population report by a large margin with the next finest certified being AU-55. Though struck in Italy, this was struck in the name of Louis the Pious during his second issuance of coinage. An incredible offering that is vastly superior to any example we can recall seeing either in reference material or in auction archives. This fantastic looking GEM exhibits a bold crisp strike on both sides with rich lovely cabinet tone. Clearly an example that was plucked from circulation early on and handled with much care and as such should be considered VERY RARE and desirable.
Estimate: $4000.00- $5000.00
