Fr-279; Dup-294; C-361. Weight: 3.81 gms. According to Duplessy these issues first began being emitted 5 December 1360. An nicely preserved example of the type exhibiting a decent strike on a somewhat compact and slightly wavy flan, with light signs of handling consistent for the grade. The coin displays light attractive orange hued tone with a pale golden color atop of the devices. A wholesome survivor with a good look certain to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters.
The king was captured by the English at the battle of Poitiers in 1357. These francs à cheval were minted in 1360 to pay his ransom.
