FRANCE. Franc a Pied, ND (1364-80). Charles V. PCGS Genuine--Mount Removed, AU Details Gold Shield.
Fr-284; Dup-360; Ciani-457; Laf-371. Weight: 3.63 gms. A well-centered example with a pleasing strike that results in nearly full detailing within the designs. Inspection of the rims reveals some filing and evidence of a previously mount. As a result of its apparent use in jewelry, pleasing orange-gold tone now accompanies both sides.

Acquired by our consignor while teaching in Brazil, where it was represented as coming from a shipwreck recovered off the coast of Florianópolis. While not an impossible occurrence, there is little about the appearance that suggests a shipwreck find, and given the certainty of edge filing/mount removal, the sequence of events would have had to have been: Shipwreck Recovery > Use in Jewelry > Removal from Jewelry > Sale to Collector.

Estimate: $700.00- $1000.00
