GERMANY. Brandenburg-Ansbach. Taler, 1727-V. Nurnberg Mint. Christiane Charlotte. NGC MS-62.
Dav-1977; KM-159. Both the obverse and reverse dies are marked with a "V" indicating Andreas Vestner, the die-cutter for this issue, who was active at the Nurnberg mint during this time period and died in 1754. A sharply struck and quite attractive survivor with intricate finely engraved devices and smooth surfaces displaying light signs of handling consistent for the grade. Pervasive rich mottled patina displaying shades of dove gray, slate and charcoal patina all with iridescent hues that pop out when tilted in the light adding to its appeal. Clearly an example which sat for a prolonged period of time undisturbed and is quite a lovely example.

Christiane Charlotte was the widow of the previous margrave and regent for her son, Karl Wilhelm Friedrich. This is one of the few German thalers to bear the portrait of a woman.

Estimate: $4500.00- $6000.00
