GERMANY. Schwabisch Hall. Gold Burning and Reconstruction of the Rathaus Medal, 1735. NGC MS-61.
Raff-126. Weight: 3.48 gms. EXTREMELY RARE struck in the metal. Building perspective, SCHW - HALL 1735 in exergue; Reverse: 6-line inscription expresses consolation that what fire burned was new-built by God's protecting hand. A sharply struck and lustrous survivor displaying crisp frosty design features with highly reflective surfaces complemented by sunset hued patina. Signs of handling consistent for the grade with minor surface abrasions and contact marks normally associated with this level of preservation now subdued by the attractive patination. A minor planchet lamination in noted in the obverse field hardly worth mentioned, but was done so the sake of accuracy. An interesting issue that appears with some frequency struck in silver, using the same set of dies as the gold issuance, but is seldom encountered in this gold version. A real treat for the specialist certain to be a welcome addition to even the most advanced collections of German medals.
