GREAT BRITAIN. George I Coronation Gold Medal, 1714. London Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-62 Gold Shield.
MI-424/9; Eimer-470. By J. Croker. Obverse: GEORGIVS D G MAG BR FR ET HIB REX, laureate, draped, and armored bust right; Reverse: George seated right on throne, being crowned by Britannia, holding spear and shield, standing to right; in two lines in exergue, INAVGVRAT XX OCT / MDCCXIIII. Tied with just three other specimens for the finest certified across both services, this tremendous example presents searing brilliance and radiating luster. The fields remain quite clean despite the hairlines which can oft plague these medals, and the overall eye appeal is rather stunning. A great opportunity for the coronation which marked the beginning of the Germanic House of Hanover, George's predecessor, Anne, having been the final ruler from the House of Stuart that had started with James I in 1603.
