GREAT BRITAIN. George II Coronation Gold Medal, 1727. London Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-63 Gold Shield.
MI-479/4; Eimer-510. By J. Croker. Obverse: GEORGIVS II D G MAG BR FR ET HIB REX, laureate, draped, and armored bust left; Reverse: VOLENTES PER POPULOS, George seated right on throne, holding scepter and orb, and being crowned by Britannia standing to right, holding cornucopia and leaning upon fasces; in two lines in exergue, CORON XI OCTOB / MDCCXXVII. An enticingly choice and alluring specimen, this example--tied with just two others for the finest across both services--features great brilliance and a subtle golden-yellow hue throughout. Assuredly one of the best of its type extant, and VERY RARE in gold. To view all items from the Duke of Lansing Collection, click
