NORWAY. 1/2 Speciedaler, 1776-HIAB. Kongsberg Mint. Christian VI. NGC AU-58.
KM-252; Sieg-13; H-3. The single finest certified of the date on the NGC population report, none finer. A coin that shows up with regular frequency in Europe in lower grades, but seldom appears on the market in that state of preservation. A very attractive near mint state example exhibiting a good strike with plenty of luster in the protected areas. The open fields and tops of the devices display a lovely slate patina with a pleasing dusky iridescent sheen that pops out when tilted in the light combined with a light smokey grey tone amongst the devices. A wholesome and eye catching survivor worthy of serious consideration from the specialist of Norwegian silver issues.
This type, struck 1776-79, was the only issuance of this denomination during the eighteenth century and would not be struck again until 1819.
Estimate: $800.00- $1200.00
