PERU. Cob 8 Escudos, 1705-L H. Lima Mint. Philip V. NGC EF-45.
Fr-7; KM-38.1; Cal-Type 4#15. Weight: 26.8 gms. An exceptional example of this RARE date, certainly ranking among the most collectible that survive, and a true instance where the assigned grade doesn't do the coin justice. Untold by the grade, this piece excels in just about every category that makes cobs desirable to collectors. Focusing on the strike, it is bold in the centers and nearly entirely even throughout, with minimal doubling appearing in the date, denomination, mint, assayer's initial and reverse cross. In addition, the king's name, spelled PHILIPPVS around the reverse legend, is virtually complete whereas all others we've seen range from partially to entirely illegible. While delicate wear appears over the highpoints, it's clear that this piece has been kept with the utmost care, as no marks of any significance are seen, and attractive reddish tone has settled within the recesses, likely due to prolonged cabinet placement. All considered, a coin that has more eye-appeal and character than just about any other -- its merits sure to excite the specialist and type collector alike!

Estimate: $10000.00- $15000.00
