ROMANIA. "Galbenul Mare" Medallic 12 Ducats, 1940. Bucharest Mint. NGC MS-61.
KMX-MG4; Stam-115; Rauta-25. Weight: 41.83 gms. Purported mintage: 348. A VERY RARE and popular low mintage one-year type. Struck to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Carol II's reign. An impressive large format 20th century gold coin that is always in demand, but seldom appears on the open market. The obverse design is simple, but elegant while the reverse displays an iconic motif of modern Romanian historical significance. The intricate reverse design features the peasant woman Modura, who on 7 June 1930, brought water to Carol to drink who was unexpectedly forced to land his airplane at Vadul Crişului, near Oradea due to the lack of fuel. The present piece boasts a sharp strike with frosty devices and bright open fields on the obverse while the reverse is quite intricate offering differing textures. Signs of handling consistent for the grade prevent this piece from garnering a higher numeric grade. An incredible modern issue certain to be the centerpiece of the next collection it enters.

Estimate: $15000.00- $20000.00
