VENEZUELA. 5 Bolivares, 1888. Caracas Mint. PCGS MS-65+ Gold Shield.
KM-Y-24.1; Stohr-49. The single finest certified and only Mint State example of the date on either the NGC or PCGS population reports. A bright and flashy example of the type, leagues better than normally encountered in the market place. The coin exhibits a needle sharp strike, frosty devices and lovely satiny luster that catches the eye. An EXTREMELY RARE date, especially so in this elite state of preservation. We expect to see spirited bidding on this lot, as Venezuelan coins of the period seldom appear in this caliber and always attractive strong bids from serious collectors when they are offered.

After consultation with a Venezuelan specialist, there are some who believe this coin, vastly superior to others seen of the date, was once part of a presentation set produced at the Caracas mint. Other singular examples of this date are also known, with a 20 Bolivares (graded MS-66 by NGC), presumably from the same set, residing in a private collection in Venezuela.

Estimate: $20000.00- $25000.00
