GETA, A.D. 209-211. AE Sestertius, Rome Mint, A.D. 211. NGC F.
RIC-168b. Obverse: Laureate bust right, with slight drapery; Reverse: Fortuna seated left on throne, holding rudder and cornucopia; wheel below. This issue emanates from the final year of Geta's life, with his brother, Caracalla, seeing to his murder in late December 211. The brothers' dispute grew following the death of their father, Septimius Severus, who had envisioned the two ruling jointly and peacefully. With this portrait, Geta is portrayed with the beginnings of his father's signature corkscrew beard, a fact that Caracalla, fearing that this would lend more support for Geta as the one, true heir, could not allow to pass.

Estimate: $150.00- $300.00
