IRAN. Qajar Dynasty. 1/4 Mohur, AH 1175/4 (1761). Tabriz Mint. Mohammad Hasan Khan. PCGS MS-63 Gold Shield.
2.72 gms. Fr-20; KM-505; Album-2826 (RRR). A VERY RARE type, this piece is dated three years after the death of Muhammad Hasan Khan and believed to have been struck under Fath 'Ali Khan Afshar, the self-appointed governor of Tabriz in opposition to the Zand Dynasty's Karim Khan. Compare to a similar EF example which realized a hammer of $1,200 in 2013, and a PCGS MS-62 which sold for a total of $1,800 in our recent June 2020 CCO auction (lot 73046).
