RUSSIA. Grand Duke Vasily Yaroslavich Bronze Medal, ND (ca. 1790). PCGS SPECIMEN-63 Brown Gold Shield.
cf. Diakov-1631 (for prototype). Copy by T. Ivanov. Obverse: Crowned and draped bust of the grand duke facing slightly right, head facing slightly right; Reverse: Biographical legend in five lines; crown above, series number (28) [of 65] below. A pleasing copy of the original issue from the late 18th century, this deep reddish-brown example is part of a series of 65 medals honoring the previous Russian grand dukes, princes, and czars. This series was analogous to Dassier's series for British and French monarchs from the earlier part of the 18th century. Quite SCARCE and interesting.
