Crowned lion (indicating Great Britain) standing left, holding up burnt paw, smoke above. On rocks beneath the fire "TRANSVAAL" in an arc; Reverse: Writing in 10 lines, detailing that Great Britain wished to strike down the Boers, but could not achieve victory and thus her big guns were silenced. All within shield, bordered by a wreath behind. A lovely, boldly struck proof with nicely frosted devices, reflective fields, and light toning.
