GREAT BRITAIN. Elizabeth II, 1952-.
2 Pounds, 1994. The Royal Mint. Bank of England Gold Proof Mule with Double Sovereign obverse.
Struck to commemorate the Tercentenary (300th anniversary) of the Bank of England.
Third crowned bust of Elizabeth II facing right without denomination below; ELIZABETH II DEI · GRATIA · REGINA · F · D / The Corporate Seal of the Bank of England featuring Seated Britannia, anniversary dates 1694 and 1994 on either side, crowned monogram of William and Mary above, Bank of England in hand-written font below. Edge milled and inscribed (incuse lettering); SIC VOS NON VOBIS.

Extremely rare error coin using Makhouf's standard obverse rather than the special design intended for this commemorative issue. A small, unknown amount of these coins were struck and immediately called back when the error was discovered. The Royal Mint sent letters to all possible recipients of the error coin and most were sent back but a few were kept by the owners, perhaps realising this error coin would one day be a sought-after rarity. Ungraded coins are selling for well over £2,000 and we sold a PCGS PR70 DCAM graded coin in auction 16 in March which hammered for £7,000. This near-perfect coin is bound to be one of the best survivors of this elusive error.

In secure plastic holder, graded by NGC PF69 Ultra Cameo, certification number 5774849-011.
