ROMAN EMPIRE

FAUSTINA SENIOR, AUGUSTA A.D. 138-140/1. Sestertius (33.24 gms), Rome Mint, ca. A.D. 141-146.
RIC-(Pius) 1108. Diademed, veiled and draped bust of Faustina I right; Reverse: Providentia standing facing, head left, holding globe and scepter. Struck on a full round planchet that neatly frames all aspects of both obverse and reverse dies. Exceptional portrait style of well rendered artistic quality. The exceptional centering and overweight nature of this piece might suggest it being a medallion struck from coin dies. Dark pleasing patina, faint surface porosity and one edge bruise, otherwiseEXTREMELY FINE.

Estimate: $600
