SCOTLAND. Perthshire 4 (R). Dundee. Copper halfpenny. 10.42 gm. 27.5 mm. Only 72 examples of this piece issued (Waters). Front view of a church; PERTH HALF PENNY 1797 around; arms and motto of Perth in a sunken circle below; ST. JOHN'S CHURCH / A watermill and trees; WRIGHT DES below; 46 WATER : MILLS FOR BLEACHING . PRINTING . COTTON WORKS . CORN &C WITHIN 4 MILES OF PERTH around. Edge: PAYABLE ON DEMAND BY JOHN FERRIER ++++. Good Extremely Fine; a particularly charming reverse design; somewhere along its history the reverse has picked up some bits of glue or lacquer; there is also a small old edge gash at 6' on the reverse that looks like it probably happened at the time the piece was struck; outer parts of the die are failing–thus the cuds around parts of the rims.
