PHRYGIA. Laodicea ad Lycum. Augustus. 27 B.C. - A.D. 14. Æ. 3.17 gm. 16 mm. Zeuxis Philalethes, magistrate. Struck circa 15 B.C.(?). Bare head of Augustus right; lituus before; [ΣΕΒΑΣΤΟΣ] / Serpent-entwined staff of Asclepius; ZEYΞΙΣ ΦΙΛΑΛΗΘΗΣ ΛΑΟΔΙΚΕΩΝ. RPC I 2895. Very Fine; pleasing glossy dark green patina. Fine style, pleasing portrait of Augustus. Choice for issue.

RPC I (p. 475) notes that ".....Zeuxis was almost certainly the director of the medical school mentioned by Strabo," making the reverse type of Asclepius (the god of healing) shown here apropos.
