Hadrian. Cistophoric Tetradrachm; Hadrian; 117-138 AD, Unidentified Mint C, c. 128-9 AD, Cistophoric Tetradrachm, 10.45g. Metcalf-Type 90, Cat. 336, Dies 10/10; RPC-1439. Obv: HADRIANVS - AVGVSTVS P P Head bare r. Rx: COS - III Asclepius, legs draped, standing l., holding serpent rod. Ex CNG 82, 16 September 2009, lot 1014. Very rare; Metcalf and RPC record only four specimens, from two obverse and three reverse dies, including two from the same die pair as ours. Overstruck on an uncertain earlier type; probable remains of legend of undertype at 6-8 o'clock on reverse edge.. VF
