Antoninus Pius. Denarius; Antoninus Pius; 138-161 AD, Rome, 145 AD, Denarius, 3.33g. BM-571, C-491 (3 Fr.), RIC-155. Obv: ANTONINVS - AVG PIVS P P Head laureate r. Rx: LIB - IIII across field, TR - P - OT - COS IIII around, Liberalitas standing l. holding coin counter and cornucopia. Breaks on the edge seem to reveal that this coin is plated, so an ancient counterfeit, although the dies are in mint style. The occasion of this fourth largesse is recorded by the Ostian fasti for 145 AD: "Annia Faustina was married to Marcus Aurelius. Antoninus Augustus distributed a largesse of 90 denarii per man".. MS
