Gallienus. Antoninianus; Gallienus; 253-268 AD, Antioch, Antoninianus, 3.29g. Göbl-1632i(1) (11 spec.), RIC-649, C-606. Obv: GALLIENVS AVG Bust radiate, draped, cuirassed r. Rx: MARS VICTOR Mars advancing r., l. leg forward, holding spear and shield. From the Philip Ashton Collection, acquired from Pegasi, August 2014. Rare. This variety was not in the comprehensive Holmes Collection of the coins of the Valerianic dynasty, CNG E442, 17 April 2019, lot 510. Only 11 specimens were in Göbl's photofile, including two varieties of the reverse type, Göbl pl. 146, Types 318 and 319 (ours is 319).. MS
