Constantius I. Follis; Constantius I; 305-306 AD, Siscia, Follis, 10.04g. RIC-164 (R), officina A=1; cf. C-150/151 (10 Fr.). Obv: IMP C CONSTANTIVS P F AVG Head laureate r. Rx: HERCVLI - VICTORI Hercules standing r., head l., lionskin over l. forearm, placing r. hand on club resting on ground, and holding three apples in l. hand; VI in l. field, SISA in exergue. A rare type, only two specimens in CoinArchives, and valued at 10 francs by Cohen, about ten times his price for a standard follis of Constantius I.In our 56 years in business we have never handled this issue, making it exquisitely rare which is unusual for the group of emperors Diocletian put together, with every one of the three Augusti and three Caesars wearing grey flannel suits. Thus, almost no variation in their portraits, or in their reverses. If anyone had the Hercules reverse, it should have been Maximinianus who thought of himself as Hercules, rather than Constantius who was the father of Constantine the Great. VF
