Mughal, Jahangir, AH 1015-1037 / AD 1605-1628, gold nazarana sawai mohur (13.59g, 26mm). Agra AH 1018 year 5, presentation issue, on broad flan showing the full design. A perfect coin! Cf. Numismatica Genevensis Auction 4 (December 2006), lot 965 for a similar example dated AH 1017. Choice Mint State. This is one of the most superb gold coins issued by Jahangir, with inscriptions in Persian. The normal mohur weighed 10.90 grams, but the sawai mohur 25% more, or about 13.60 grams. These were struck solely as presentation pieces for high officials at court or foreign dignitaries who had won the Emperor's favor.
