Mughal, Shah Jahan I, AH 1037-1068 / AD 1628-1658, gold mohur (10.94g, 23mm).  Surat year 2, month of Azar, from the Akola hoard. An absolutely fabulous strike and unimproveable. Choice Mint State. The Akola hoard is said to have contained about 3500 gold mohurs, nearly all year 2 of Surat mint, same dies, of which nearly 1000 pieces reached the market, the rest confiscated by the government.  The hoard was found during road or railway construction.  The hoard was an intended payment to the Mughal army of Shah Jahan, then fighting the Sultan of Golkonda in eastern India.  The mohurs were allegedly stolen from the liverymen en route to Golkonda, buried but never recovered.

Estimate: 3000-4000 USD
