ROMAN EMPIRE. Domitian. AD. 81-96. Æ sestertius (24.02 gm; 35 mm). Germania Invicto type. Rome mint, Struck A.D. 85. IMP CAES DOMIT AVG GERM COS XII CENS PER P P, laureate head of Domitian right, aegis on left shoulder / S - C, Victory standing right, foot on helmet, inscribing DE / GER in two lines on shield set on trophy; to right Germania as mourning female captive seated right at base of trophy. Paris 355 (diff. dies), BMC 330-1 pl. 77.7 (rev. only, diff. die). Just 15 years after Domitian's father Vespasian and his brother Titus' victory over Judaea, Domitian would (prematurely) declare victory over the Germans. Well struck on a nice full flan. Some smoothing and tooling on the fields. Traces of original patina on the edge. Green patina. Choice EF. Rare.
