The Waitangi Treaty was first signed on 6th February 1840 between North Island Maori Chiefs and representatives of the British Crown and the crown has the reverse design showing Ngāpuhi chief Tāmati Waka Nene and the first governor of New Zealand, William Hobson, shaking hands, with 'Waitangi' in the exergue
