One of the rare portrait coins of Ptolemy VI. While the mint of Alexandria regularly issued coins with the portrait of the founder of the dynasty, Ptolemy I, the Ptolemaic mints in Phoenicia and Cyprus issued coins with the portrait of the current ruler on special occasions. This seems to be an accession issue, produced in, or soon after, the period when Ptolemy V ruled under the supervision of the ambitious chancellor Sosibios.
