Byzantine lead seal of Pharasmanes protospatharios and strategos (ca 11th cent.)
Obverse: Bust of Mother of God, facial, nimbate, wearing chiton and maphorion, her hands in praying posture, sigla ΜΡ-ΘΥ (Mother of God), all within dotted border.
Reverse: Inscription in 5 lines between decorative patterns, ΦΑΡΑC/ΜΑΝΙCΑ´/CΠΑΘ(ΑΡΙΟC)S,C/ΤΡΑΤΙΓ(ΟC)/ΤΕΟΡ = Φαρασμάνης πρωτοσπαθάριος καὶ στρατηγὸς Τεορ(?) (Pharasmanes protospatharios and strategos of Teor), all within dotted border.
Note that Pharasmanes is an Iberian (Georgian) name, so the owner of the present seal was presumably a high rank byzantine officer of Iberian origin.
